The E Street Band

The E Street Band

The E Street Band was established in October 1972, but wasn’t named formally until September 1974. The band plays rock music like Bruce also does when he acts alone. The original band consists of Garry Tallent at the bass, Clarence Clemons at the saxophone, Danny Federici at the keyboards and the accordion, Vini «Mad Dog» Lopez at the drums and David Sancious also at the keyboard.

The band found their name in a street in Belmar, New Jersey, where Sancious’ mother lived. She was a very kind woman and allowed the band to rehearse in her home.

In 1989 Springsteen decided to go his own way, and the other members alos had projects to do alone. The last performance they had together before the split was the «Human Rights Now! Tour» the autumn in 1988.

But in 1995, the news a whole world had been waiting for came out, The E Street Band was going to do a reunion! Springsteen released Greatest Hits and then they was temporarily reunited to record four new songs, but the REAL reunion didn’t happen before 1999, ten years after the split. They appeared with an extremely successful Reunion Tour. And they are still making music together!

"The River"

“The River” is one of the most known songs by Bruce Springsteen. That is a quite old song, and came first in 1980 on his fifth album with the same name. The song was a hit single in some of the European countries. On Springsteen’s tours, “The River” became a central piece. A piece of the show was often that Bruce told a story about his battles against his father growing up.

That led to totally silence by the spectators. The silence after the story would then be interrupted by the start of the harmonica part. Especially in Europe on later tours, the song was extended to the whole length with the spectators was singing the wordless “oooh” parts at the end.

The setting in the song is dark. Bruce sings a bit slow and dark, something that underlines the dark setting. The “I” person in “The River” do not need to be Bruce himself, maybe he sings about another guy? Who knows?

In the song there are only the words in the refrain which are repeated. The reason is that Bruce tries to tell a story. He sings in the beginning of the song that “Me and Mary we met in high school” and in the next line he sings “Then I got Mary pregnant”.

In short, the song is about a boy and a girl who went to the same high school. They both lived in a valley, but one day they rode away. The main person got Mary pregnant, so they planned to marry on his 19th birthday. They didn’t marry and he started to work. Later he acted like he didn’t remember and Mary didn’t care.

"Dancing in the Dark"

”Dancing in the Dark” was the last song that Bruce Springsteen wrote to his album ”Born in the U.S.A” which was issued in 1984.

The setting in the song is characterized by the fact that the main person is not content with his life and want a change. I choose to call the main person ”he” because it is Bruce Springsteen who sings, but it can also be a ”she”.

The song is about a person who feels bad about himself. He is tired and bored, and so he looks in the mirror: He wants to change his clothes, hair and face. He is living in a dump and wants a big change in his life. In the song there are only the words in the refrain which are repeated. The reason for that is because Bruce Springsteen tell a story with the song.

The refrain says: ” You can't start a fire, you can't start a fire without a spark”. A fire do not start with a big fire, it starts with a small spark. That means that everything starts in the small.

Then the song says: ”You sit around getting older” and ” I'm dying for some action”. That means that he is longing for a change, and if nothing happens he is going to live the same bad life.

The end underlines that everything starts in the small. So every kind of changes begin in the small.

New house!

According to the Daily Business Review, Springsteen in September 2008 bought him self a new property in Equestrian community in Wellington, Florida. His new home is almost 6,000-foot and should be big enough to care for his family with five bedrooms and six bathrooms. He had to pay $4.6 million to get this pearl from William Farish Jr. and his wife Kelly the house next door is also owned by Springsteen, but according to the rumors he may sell it.

Thing's you may didn't know about Bruce

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen, also known as “The Boss”. At the age of 59, he’s still a world-known idol and a hero for many young people, as well being a legend for the older generation.
When he performs or records a new album, he’s always accomplished by the “E Street Band”, which consists of Bruce himself, and ten other musicians, among them are G. Tallent, C. Clemons, M. Weinberg, R. Bittan and Steven Van Zandt.

His most successful albums are “Born To Run” and “Born In The USA”, these two together with all his other albums has sold 65 million albums in the US and 120 million worldwide. His latest release was a album called “Magic” and were released in 2007 and his latest single hit was “Working on a dream” (2009).

Because of his support for the presidential campaigns of Senator John Kerry and Senator Barack Obama, Springsteen has gradually become identified with liberal politics. He is also noted for his support of various relief and rebuilding efforts in New Jersey and elsewhere, and for his response to the September 11th attacks, on which his album The Rising reflects.

He has earned numerous awards for his work, including nineteen Grammy Awards two Golden Globes and an Academy Award, and continues to have a strong global fan base.

Bruce Springsteen early years

Bruce Springsteen was born 19, September 1949 in New Jersey; he got Dutch and Irish ancestry. When he was seven years old he saw Elvis Presley play on the Ed Sullivan Show, and it was this that made him interested to begin with music. At the age of 13 he bought his first guitar and at an age of 16 his mother took out a loan to get her son a Kent guitar for about 60$. Bruce Springsteen was a quiet boy, and spend most of his time learning to play on his guitar. His two idols were Bob Dylan and Elvis. Bruce began the band The Castiles, and became the lead singer and guitarist. The Castiles recorded two original songs. Later on he played a lot of gigs on local bars, and a lot of people said that he would make it big, he even got the nickname “the boss”
Springsteen, however disliked the name because he had never been particularly fan of “bosses”. Bruce Springsteen got his breakthrough with the album “Born to run” in 1975.

Rock

Rock is kind of Bruce’s "main" genre.
Rock is a music genre of popular music and was first found “popular” in the 1960s. The rock has its roots in the 1940s and 1950s and from the United States In the rock, there are some instruments that are very important, like the electric- or the acoustic guitar, the electric bass guitar, the drums, and keyboard instruments such as the organ, the piano, or the synthesizer who became popular first in the 1970s. These instruments are the most necessary for getting good rock music.
There are also many small genres subjected rock, such as folk rock, who is a genre Bruce also is using, country, blues, and many others!

"Magic"

The album” Magic” of Bruce Springsteen

The latest album of Bruce Springsteen and the E street band called “magic” were released in 2007 and became the first album after a five years break since “The Rising” in 2002. The album became a winner after a short period of time and managed to get on the 2, place of the 50 best albums in 2007, according to the Rolling Stones list.

In total the album contains 50 minutes and 48 seconds of best quality rock with a “Heavy E street band” sound, with well known hits like – Long way home and Radio Nowhere. There’s a good mixture of happy and energetic songs to songs with slower and thought-provoking teams

“Magic” is a album which are getting excellent comments around the globe, maybe not so strange when considering one of the most experienced and successful band in the world are behind it.

Lyric's from Bruce's song The River

I come from down in the valley
where mister when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
when she was just seventeen
We'd ride out of this valley down to where the fields were green

We'd go down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we'd ride

Then I got Mary pregnant
and man that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
and the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle
No flowers no wedding dress

That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we did ride

I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care

But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me
they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse
that sends me down to the river
though I know the river is dry
That sends me down to the river tonight
Down to the river
my baby and I
Oh down to the river we ride
